Are You Weary?

The sayings of Agur son of Jakeh—an inspired utterance.

This man's utterance to Ithiel:

“I am weary, God, but I can prevail.

(Prov 30:1)

“I am weary, God”….

This was my first verse of the day as I struggled out of bed - late.

Before I had opened my Bible, “I am weary” were the first words out of my mouth.

Weary from the heat, weary with age, weary from spiritual aches for those I love, weary from missing the interaction with my spiritual friends (it seems to happen near the end of each summer), weary from spiritual blindness - personal and of the world, weary from that which we euphemistically can “news”.

Just weary.

And here is God’s Word sharing the same thought!

It always amazes me how God’s Word touches you right where you are at, at the right moment in time, at the right juncture in your life, at the right heart felt need, at the right point needing healing.

He, our God, understands.

But I can prevail.

So Agur was weary too. And he wrote words worth saving while fatigued.

What is my excuse?

I have been prompted to write in my blog the last couple of weeks but keep putting it off.

Why?

“Oh, I’m just too tired. I’ll do it another day,” I say.

Am I putting off what the Lord is prompting me to share?

Are the words He gives me each day worth sharing?

I may claim them as “my words” or “my revelations” but they are really His which He has shared with me.

Giving Him credit is wise.

Not giving Him credit shows how unwise I remain.... just what Agur shared in the rest of this passage…

“Surely I am only a brute, not a man;

I do not have human understanding.

I have not learned wisdom,

nor have I attained to the knowledge of the Holy One…”

And yet, I know God, thanks be to God who gave this incredible gift of His Son, Jesus, and His Spirit, the Holy Spirit living in us.

I may not have full understanding or attained the full knowledge of the Holy One, but I know Him.

Isn’t that incredible?

And so I will live in my weariness knowing He is in control,

He is wise,

He sees me, my concerns, our world, and He knows.
