AI echo is Conformity

I have just finished reading a very sobering book written by a forensic psychiatrist (Robert Lifton) who interviewed some 30 German physicians and survivors of the holocaust. He interviewed them some 15 years after WWII had ended and wrote a book entitled, “The Nazi Doctors - Medical Killing and the Psychology of Genocide”.

After reading it, I summated similarities between pre WWII German physicians involved in euthanasia and present day Canadian physicians involved in MAiD (euphemism for euthanasia).

I then shared these with a few of my physician colleagues.

One of them emailed back with a summary of what ChatGPT-OpenAI says about the comparison.

On reading this summary, I smiled and then cried.

The above verse came to my mind.

I smiled because ChatGPT missed the point altogether. No discussion on “Do not kill” or “Do no harm”. And then I cried because it missed the point and many people are going to AI for information which they think they can trust.

But ChatGPT - Open AI is just another method of conformity to this world.

It’s summation stated that -

1) Canada’s MAiD follows ethics whereas Germany’s did not.

2) Canada’s MAiD follows strict guidelines whereas Germany’s did not.

3) Canada’s MAiD follows voluntary consent whereas Germany’s did not.

4) etc. etc. etc.

AI just assumed that today’s reasoning was superior to Germany’s reasoning.

AI neglected contextualizing Germany’s pre war euthanasia within the values of their day!!

And where was God and the moral code in all this? Nowhere. Nowhere.

Conformity to the German civilization values of pre war Germany was the norm for those physicians.

Conformity to the Canadian civilization values of today is the norm for many of our physicians.

Addressing Hippocrates’ code of “Do no harm” wasn’t even debated or presented by the pre-war German physicians.

Addressing the medical codes of “Do no harm” isn’t even debated or presented by present day physicians.

Addressing the moral code of “Do not kill” wasn’t debated or presented then.

Addressing the moral code of “Do not kill” isn’t debated presented today either.

Conformity, conformity, conformity…

Even AI conforms to societal values.

Psychology Today calls it AI echo which is defined as “AI will tell you what you want to hear”.

This leads to subjective conformity to our own beliefs. I am the ultimate truth for me.

So… Where is the truth?

You see, God wants us to hear His Truths, His way, His freedom… and that can lead to transformation of our thinking, renewal, and freedom.

If we keep listening to our own truths or the truths of society, we just listen to an ever reverberating, cyclic echo…….

and AI is just repeating what we already are doing….

the AI echo echoes that same reverberating echo in mind which goes round and round in the spirit.

We could re-write this verse this way - “Do not conform to the AI echo of this world, but be transformed by the Holy Spirit daily renewing your mind…”

My prayer is that we will not listen to an echo.

That we will not listen to our own concoction of beliefs.

That we will not conform to societal beliefs.

But we will let God transform us by the renewing of our mind so we will be able to test and approve that which is of God and His will…. that which is good, pleasing, and perfect.
